MINGLE MINGLE

Who: errybody
When: Day 97, noon-afternoon
Where: all over!
What: MINGLE

[Just because there are a bunch of dragons hanging around doesn't mean life does not go on.

Yukari, for one, is going to take a nap. Not in her room, because she doesn't want to be unavailable for, you know, whoever. Just around. Around somewhere. On the fountain. In the kitchen. Outside your door. In the service buildings. Everywhere.]

She was once a domesticated goddess of loyalty and animal husbandry. Those dog-like creatures were once much larger in the past, but apparently they had been bred to be pets. Much like how wolves over time can be bred to be breeds of housedogs.

However, as you can tell, she eventually went on to side with the gods of nature.

Yeah. And from what I heard, she seems pretty mad about something.

...

Know why she switched sides?

... Lavi-kun. Don't disappoint me by being slow here.

The gods of nature turn on the civilizations. Suddenly, plants, animals... everything from the world of nature is a danger.

How do you think people would view their own pets in that sort of situation?
besomeothername: (neutral ✏ Are you pondering what I'm)

Sorry, sorry.

[Pondering this for a second]

Now I know why you said eventually. And why she is so angry.

The bite just isn't a bite then. ... Well damn.

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-01 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
There's deliberate action being taken by her, you're correct.

However, depending on what the bite does, this situation still may warrant a lower priority than the berserkers and the dragons.

--though there is one thing about this goddess that is interesting.

Doesn't it support your theory about a populace changing what and how a god can be? The people feared her and so they expected her to turn against them, and so they turned against her in belief. And so their own expectations were carried out.

Self-fulfilling prophecy. Successful change of what that goddess was and represented. She hardly seems the goddess of loyalty now, doesn't she? But could that be changed again?

I had not reason to think Zhen Ji and Dellen were lying to me about how gods changed over time, but---

It's always good news to hear that it's been done before, even if it wasn't intentional.

Ah, and as for loyalty, that would depend on what aspect of loyalty she know embodied. She might be the overbearing controlling type of forced loyalty. There are gods of fear on both sides of the fence. Unless ironically, she is the goddess of betrayal now.

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-01 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Technically, she was always the goddess of betrayal. For one side of a coin, there has to be another, isn't that right?

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose. But wouldn't betrayal have existed as another entity? Just like how order and rebellion are two different gods. Unless you think Zhen Ji and Eizon can switch places at some point. Or at least a fraction of their domain.
best_ended: (pic#1012071)

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-01 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. It would depend entirely on the people, wouldn't it?

Order and Chaos are often viewed as separate entities because they are very clearly opposing forces. However, something as tied together as loyalty and betrayal could be within the same entity. Much like how a god or goddess of love could easily hate. Or vice-versa for the two.

Hmmm. That gets me thinking...

Do you think that Eizon's little directory is 100% truthful? Or like you just said, could some of our resident gods and goddesses be hiding a domain or two under their belt.

Define "Order".
besomeothername: (neutral ✏ I'll let you two work that out)

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-01 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I could give you a bare-bones dictionary definition, but that would be boring, wouldn't it?

Order is an arrangement of people or things in relation to each other. It can imply purpose but it's also possible to have order for the sake of order. In order to work harmoniously, there might be rules to follow or a hierarchy of power. Some sort of system to determine what is acceptable and what is not. While not unknown to nature, it has more prominence in what we would call civilization, so it's no surprise that the god with the domain of Order would be on our side.

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-01 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
And in order to have a system of any sort, information has to be controlled. The population has to be directed in a particular way in order to make them cooperate and work together as a cohesive force.

Tell me, what form of system tells everyone everything? Especially things like the negative sides of leadership figures--or in our case, gods we have to depend on?

Point. Point.

[Runs a hand through his hair]

All the little details. But good to know.

[Breaks into a grin]

Hey hey, I might be able to make a down payment on that dragon that tore through Level Three during death pollen funtimes.

Like you suspected, it had to do with making a deal with a god. An agreement of sorts "that in exchange for a wyrm's power and form, she carries a wyrm's heart with hers."

Once things cool down a bit with headquarters, I was gonna go see if I could have a chat with the god about the details of the agreement.

Ygin, you mean?

I'd tread carefully.

Back when there was a confessions sort of thing Ur'ghaste set up, I spoke with someone who said his nightmares were plaguing him and it was because of a god. I have reason to believe that Ygin was the god in question.
besomeothername: (neutral ✏ Are you pondering what I'm)

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Worried about me, Pecha? I'm flattered.

[But wait! Lavi's looking a bit more worried after that last sentence]

Sorry if I'm being slow, but why do you think Ygin was behind it? I know he's the god of fear and all, but I thought nightmares were more of Rew's specialty.

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-03 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Rew?

... ah, that god.

No, no. One thing you will need to learn about gods and anything of divinity or at least super- or preter-natural forces is that there are passive and active types. That Rew god is more the passive sort--all-encompassing and generally does not make appearances. The way this person spoke of it made it out more like someone with a bad stalking habit.

If we're talking nightmares, we're speaking of fears--often ones not consciously acknowledged. Ygin was new at the time this conversation took place, though.

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-03 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
That passive god is the one who raised the water and killed everyone who came before us. Though yeah-- no one's seen him since those very first shared dreams things. And he doesn't play the pick and choose game.

People with bad stalking habits usually have a reason though. Do you know why this person was so interesting in the first place?
best_ended: ((´ー`)y-~~)

[personal profile] best_ended 2012-12-03 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Passive doesn't mean "least dangerous". The Old Man was a passive god but he ate blanks by the hundreds. The Old Woman was a passive goddess but she ate the Old Man with flames.

As for that person, the event ended and I didn't find out who they were. It was something I set aside for later as more things developed.

[so how many threads of events does that make Izaya involved in now...?]

Well now seems like as good a time as any to try to figure that. Since we're already looking into Ygin.

[the busiest~]

It has a higher priority now. If the god whose boon is berserking into dragons is stalking a particular person, it could be tthat person is more dangerous than the berserkers.
besomeothername: (neutral ✏ Did you say something?)

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-07 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
It could be.

Or it might be that coaxing out the fears related to the nightmares are a great source of godly energy for Ygin. I did notice that the gods have been bringing in people that are a bit--- how should I say it-- desensitized to those kinds of things. And certainly not afraid of what goes bump in the night outside headquarters.

Hm...

Simply being a source of entertainment isn't all there is to being favored by a god, though.

It's something to look into.
besomeothername: (neutral ✏ But why is all the rum gone?)

[personal profile] besomeothername 2012-12-07 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't said entertainment so much as survival.

We've lost a couple of gods, yeah. And they could have just wandered off, but there is the possibility that they're so weak they can no longer materialize.
